About the Event
This event will include a "Forest Bathing Experience" which includes walking on a boardwalk through the lush cypress forest to the majestic St. John's River, a tour of the scrublands and pine forest, and an evening bonfire (depending on weather).
Saturiwa is a natural conservation area and homestead. It contains a rich diversity of northeast Florida ecosystems: open water, riverine grassbeds, hardwood swamp, pine flatwoods, cypress domes, and pine hammock.
If we are quiet and move slowly, you may be able to see all kinds of diverse wildlife here.
This is as "deep into the woods" as you can get- and one of the most enchanted natural areas in North East Florida!
You'd be able to learn quite a bit about biodiversity, land protection, and stewardship as well as the ecological and native history of Saturiwa.
The owner, Michael Adams, has published one of the best Natural History and Ecological Field Guide of North Florida. Saturiwa Honey is also produced here in this wonderful homestead by Carole Adams, the beekeeper of Saturiwa.
These honey and guidebook is available for purchase at this event.
*Saturiwa's name is taken from a tribe of Timucuans led by Chief Saturiwa.
